Description

Finn:"What cha' doing Saba?

Saba:"Uhhh, hunting wabbits!"

My part of an art trade with the very talented Tazihound of her wolf character, Saba.

I also included Fell and Rahla in the background as well as a couple other wolves :3

Anyway, wow, this took a while XD I think the total working time was around 14-15 hours, but in the end it was all worth it  I LOVED drawing Saba. Her design is so beautiful! Haha the thing is, I now realize that this drawing isn't exactly in character for Saba, but hey, she's still a wolf!

The blur was tricky to do. I was trying to get the key points on Saba and the rabbit to blur out right, but it didn't work out the way I wanted to on the rabbit :/ I hope the drawing itself includes enough motion to make up for it.

Hope you like it Tazi <3 This trade was super fun for me!

You know.... I appreciate the no effects one more. I feel like your trees in the back are rendered just enough without the blur, that is still conveys movement. When you blur the tree, you lose the sharp definition between the wolf and background, flattening your image, and because of the similar color palette, it makes it all the more worse. The blurriness of the paws and feet of the rabbit are good though. That helps further the idea of movement.

You have shadows from your trees that  cover your character and parts of the ground. But they don't really feel like shadows that were cast. They feel like another layer with a low opacity. Part of the reason for this is that the characters have the shadow continuing on to them from the background, without any real difference in color variation. If I were to edit a piece like this, I would make the shadows on the snow darker, since your subject is closer to the snow than the tree branches are to the wolf and rabbit. Shadows cast over a figure should also follow the same color palette and previous shading that you've already laid down. If there's a shadow from the tree in the armpit of the wolf, then that shadow should be darker, not the same color. I would also work on the contours and overall shape of your wolf a bit more as well. The shading will help to define if this is a 2d image on a flat paper, or its a 3 dimensional looking image. You've helped do this a little bit, like on the arm of the wolf, but I'd love to see that more exaggerated on the actual torso of the wolf.

Lastly. You got the composition down. I love the border you've got.  For more of a depth push, I would make snowflakes in front of the camera that are not blurred. In the none effect version, I can see the foreground much more clearly, and that gives me more to look at than just your two subjects.

I would move the rabbit so that he's on the inside of that farther front paw, as right now it doesn't feel like the rabbit is even his focus. His face is actually more focused towards the audience, while the rabbit is running straight across. Either change his eyes, or change the rabbit, would be my suggestion. Also? That rabbit is running for his life. Make him LOOK scared!

Seriously though. I ripped this apart, but it's not really necessary. You're a fantastic artist, and I've loved pretty much everything in your gallery. Your trees are magnificent in detail, and I really love the open space on the snow next to the brook that has the tree branch shadows on it. I also love that there's a brook, and it gives the piece a nice grounding line between your foreground and background. Well done. It's difficult to do a piece with many characters; never mind ones that are in motion as well. I look forward to your future work .
